Jon Lees BA (Hons) PGCert MBA

Deputy Director, Student and Academic Services, De Montfort University

Jon brings 25 years of experience in higher education across a range of institutions. He joined DMU in 2012 and in his current role is responsible for managing DMU’s student record and associated services that support all students during their journey including student finance, registration, timetabling, immigration compliance, examination and graduation. He works closely with faculties and central services, and played a pivotal role delivering DMU’s new student records system.

Previously, Jon was Director of the MBA at Warwick Business School with responsibility for all aspects of programme strategy and delivery including the student experience from recruitment to graduation, league table and financial performance, international and corporate partnerships, and alumni relations.

Jon served as parent governor at Dorothy Goodman School, Hinckley, and is currently an academy trustee for this large special needs school. He therefore brings education governance experience and understands the value of strong governance for DMU, ensuring objective challenge, executive accountability and ‘critical friendship’.

Jon feels passionately about widening participation and DMU’s connection with the local community. He brings a broad understanding of DMU’s internal and external challenges, including its regulatory environment, and his extensive internal network gives him a good ‘ear to the ground’.

Jon adds, “DMU is an amazing place to work and I’m delighted to have been elected by colleagues as professional services staff governor. I look forward to playing a central role in forging an innovative, forward-looking, confident and sustainable university founded on sound governance.”

Jon lives locally in Leicestershire with his wife and two children, having moved to Leicester in 1993 for postgraduate study. In addition to family life, his interests include current affairs, cricket, football and a spot of fishing to unwind.
