Dr Peter Cross
Chief Finance Officer
Dr Pete Cross was appointed as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for De Montfort University (DMU) in January 2018. As CFO, Pete provides the strategic oversight and senior professional leadership for all aspects of financial and procurement governance, stewardship and performance across DMU.
In the eighteen years prior to joining DMU, Pete progressed rapidly from trainee to senior leadership positions within the National Health Service with the most recent of these roles being the Executive Director of Finance, Business and Estates for the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.
Within this role, Pete led the Trust to become one of the best financially performing Trusts in the country as well as embedding a passion and culture that focussed on connecting business support services with patients and front-line staff.
He also was actively involved in national and regional staff leadership and skills development initiatives through his role as Chair of the East Midlands Skills Development Network and a member of the East Midlands Leadership Academy Board.
Professionally, Pete is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and, as a qualified accountant, a member of the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
Following the completion of his Master of Science degree in Public Services Management in 2009, he completed a Doctorate in Business Administration in 2012 with case study research on the impact of system complexity on the relationships and outcomes of large public sector bodies.
In his spare time, Pete likes to keep active participating in various sports including football, running and kayaking. He is the Vice-Chair of a local junior football club, FA-qualified junior football coach and spends much of his time undertaking fundraising activities for local charitable and community causes.
As an enthusiastic creative writer, his first children’s/early teen’s book, The Rockwall Brothers, was published in October 2017.
