School of Design
The School of Design offers a diverse, innovative range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught by staff with world-leading reputations in teaching, research and design consultancy across a host of subject areas.
The practical nature of our courses, working on live projects with industry and undertaking work placements, gives you the skills you need to succeed in today’s design industry. #DMUglobal, our programme that offers the majority of students an international experience, such as attending a design show or studying abroad, will help you thrive in the fast-changing global workplace.
The well-equipped facilities already cater for most craft practices from glass blowing workshops, cutting-edge digital prototyping studios and garment and textile manufacturing. The School of Design is now located in DMU’s new Vijay Patel building which brings all our art and design courses together into a beautiful, striking building filled with light. It provides the space and facilities where student and staff ideas can develop and flourish.
Our courses are designed and structured to prepare you for the workplace. Your timetable and challenging curriculum will prepare you with skills and work ethnic for industry.
Recent graduates now work with leading employers such as Aston Martin, Superdry, Agent Provocateur, Dyson, Jaguar Land Rover, Triumph, Burberry, River Island, Adidas, Nokia, Vivienne Westwood, Abercrombie & Fitch, Reiss, Next, New Balance, Seymourpowell, Foster & Partners, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, H&M, Conran Design and Kelly Hoppen.

There are significant research opportunities within the School of Design, which is home to research staff with international reputations in a wide range of creative fields. Our research is informed by blending traditional disciplines of critical enquiry and analysis with practice-based research and creative work employing cutting-edge technology.
We have active research groups in the fields of Design and New Product Development and Textile Engineering and Materials , who work with leading companies such as Google, BT and Adidas.
