Self-Assessment Team

An Athena SWAN self-assessment team has been assembled within the School with a broad range of perspective with relation to gender, career stage and work-life balance. The diversity of the team’s experiences and perspectives are valuable in ensuring that ongoing self-analysis of the school’s culture, structure and practices with relation to gender equality, is wide-ranging and reflects the experiences and perceptions of the schools staff.

Mrs Marcella Avis
Faculty Director of Operations

Marcella has been a member of the Health & Life Sciences Faculty Athena SWAN network since its inception and sits on the Faculty Equality and Diversity Committee and the University Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team.

Dr Linda Bengtstrom

VC2020 Lecturer in Analytical Forensic Chemistry

Commuting from a distance, Linda can work from home to achieve a work-life balance.

Mr Daniel Carter

Faculty Athena SWAN Project Officer

With a 3 year old daughter, Daniel works flexibly/from home in order to better contribute to his domestic responsibilities. He is also a member of the University Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team.

Prof Antony D’Emanuele

Head of School

Tony has over 10 years’ experience as a Head of School and has been at DMU since 2015.

Mrs Sejal Gohil

Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice

Sejal balances full-time work, studying for a post graduate qualification and bringing up two children. She is also the School Equality & Diversity Champion.

Ms Emma Johnston

Lecturer in Forensic Biology

Emma is Programme Leader for the Forensic Science, BSc course and balances her role with part-time study for a PhD.

Mrs Meera Naran

Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice

As a parent, Meera brings the perspective of someone who works flexibly to achieve a work-life balance. She is also working towards a postgraduate qualification.

Mr Bhishak Pankhania

Postgraduate Research Student

Bhishak is a PhD student who is studying part-time in order to achieve a work-life balance around the commitment of a family.

Mrs Jasira Patel

Faculty Laboratory Technician

Jasira is a member of the Faculty Athena SWAN network and is supporting the application through the analysis of key career transition points.

Dr Ketan Ruparelia

Faculty Senior Technician

As part of a duel career family with two children, Ketan studied for his PhD and PG Cert part time in order to achieve a work-life balance.

Dr Tarsem Sahota

Senior Research Fellow

Tarsem balances full-time research work, postgraduate supervision and a duel career family with two children.

Prof Sangeeta Tanna (Chair)

Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis

Sangeeta is Chair of the Self-Assessment Team and has been a member of the Faculty Athena SWAN network since its inception. She is also the School Athena SWAN Champion.

Dr Susie Walsh

Associate Head of School

Susie balances working full-time with raising a young family.

Dr Nicola Ward

Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice

Nicola works part-time in order to care for her two children and donate time to other voluntary roles.

Mrs Tamara Whittaker

Faculty Administrative Team Leader

Tamara works part-time to care for her two young children. Currently on maternity leave.

Philippe has a young family, working on average one day a week at home to contribute to his domestic responsibilities.
