Department of Accounting and Finance

The Business School is one of the UK’s leading providers of professional accounting qualifications. Staff offer a wealth of industrial, professional practice and academic experience and we have strong links with the major internationally-recognised professional bodies - we are an ACCA Premier Status centre and a CIMA Quality Partner.

We have over 600 students studying our undergraduate, postgraduate, research and professional programmes each year, including around 250 part-time UK students and 50 full-time international students study ACCA and CIMA qualifications with us. Students regularly achieve examination results well above the national average and win national prizes for their results.

The Department of Accounting and Finance achieved the best possible results from the government’s Quality Assurance Agency for our excellent teaching and student support, and the on-going annual renewal of the ACCA Premier Status and CIMA quality partner.

We have a diverse range of professionally qualified staff with experience in industry, commerce and public sectors, who lecture based on expertise and experience.

The department undertakes research in a range of topics including auditing and corporate disclosure, corporate governance, financial risk management and market efficiency. It has a regular seminar series and an occasional research paper series. It issues a research newsletter.
