Head of Academic Quality

Emma Sheffield

  • Responsible for the development of academic quality policy.
  • Liaison with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).
  • Ensuring the university is briefed on national developments and prepared for institutional review.

Deputy Head of Academic Quality/Learning and Teaching Senior Adviser

Sophia Goddard

  • Works closely with the Head of Academic Quality to support the leadership and management of the department and its activities.
  • Supports the development of quality management, stimulating new ideas and innovations and challenging established ways of working to ensure the continuous improvement of quality management processes.
  • Focused on enhancing the student experience.
  • Ensures strong student voice in academic quality processes, policies and strategies working in partnership with students and the Students’ Union.
  • Oversees periodic review and annual monitoring.
  • Supports learning, teaching and assessment strategy and policy development including implementation and evaluation.

Senior Quality Officer

Rebecca Thirlby

  • Provide support and direction for the development of the university’s academic quality monitoring processes, in light of relevant national external frameworks and policy development.
  • Drive the strategic development of student representation within academic quality and related initiatives and champion the role of student voice in academic quality processes, policies and strategies working in partnership with students and the Students’ Union.
  • Provide support to prepare for Ofsted readiness, supporting the development of internal systems and processes to monitor provision subject to Ofsted review.
  • To maintain a detailed knowledge and close links with the provision subject to Ofsted inspection across the institution.
  • Take a lead role within the department in understanding diversity and maximising positive impact through equality analysis.
  • To oversee the department’s compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Quality Officer 

Laura Sanderson

 

  • Co-ordinates and supports the quality assurance functions and processes relating to programme monitoring and enhancement, including Programme Self-Assessment Reports (PSARs) and module enhancement.
  • Supports the periodic review process and acts as Servicing Officer at events.
  • Maintains the Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) Register.

Carmen Bayliss

  • Provides secretarial and administrative support to the senior management team of the Department of Academic Quality (DAQ).
  • Monitors expenditure against the budget and make regular reports to the Head of Department.
  • Responsible for the operational management of the department’s website.
  • Provides administrative support across the department.
  • Assists with research/collecting information.
  • Undertakes the role of safety coordinator for the department.

Quality Manager (Taught Programmes)

Sally Lloyd

  • Management, development and review of the university’s academic regulations, to include operating the exemptions process (programme-specific regulations).
  • Provision of support and guidance to faculties on the use of academic credit and the recognition of prior learning process.
  • Secretary and member of Taught Programmes Management Committee (TPMC).
  • Acting as a panel member at DMU-based validation events.
  • Line management of a team covering a range of quality assurance functions, including validation, curriculum modification and external examining.

Quality Officer

Victoria Pooley

  • Provides support to the Senior Officer, Taught Programmes and the Senior Quality Officer in carrying out the duties of their roles.
  • Manages the day to day functions associated with the approval of new programmes and the modification of programmes and modules.
  • Monitors and reviews the programme approval and curriculum modification processes.
  • Oversee the accuracy of award information provided for outward-facing publications.
  • Analyses the outcomes of programme approval events and prepares annual overview reports for university committees.

Quality Manager (Assessment) 

Suzanne Nelson

  • Develop, implement and review processes which govern the integrity of assessment, the verification and ratification of student results and assessment conduct.
  • Lead on ensuring that the academic regulations are accurately applied to students’ module marks, progression and awards for all taught programmes.
  • Manage the assessment board framework, overseeing the role and responsibilities of the Student and Academic Services (SAAS) representatives.
  • Manage areas of reporting that enable operational implementation of assessment board processes and management information systems and reports.

Quality Officer (Assessment)

Claire Richardson

  • Manages the quality processes and policies to ensure that apprenticeship end point assessments (EPAs) are operated appropriately, including the appointment of independent assessors.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues across the institution in relation to the implementation of end point assessments.
  • Monitor the EPA processes and ensure that they reflect sector best practice.
  • Facilitate the production and use of management information reports which provide oversight of performance on EPAs.
