We understand the benefit of sport, the way it brings people together, instils principles of teamwork and inspires a winning attitude. DMUsport works to offer that experience to as many students as possible, enhancing student experience, promoting a fit and healthy lifestyle and showcasing DMU as an ambitious sports institution.

Sport at DMU is on the rise and there are endless opportunities on offer for students to play competitively or simply just to get involved. Whether it be through the nationwide competitive sports programme; British University and College Sports (BUCS), sport specific competition, intra-mural leagues or through the Campus330 recreational sports initiative.

Leicester City Football Club

Our latest agreement to become the club’s Official Higher Education Partner builds on four years of two great Leicester institutions working together, and comes as the Foxes shake up the football orthodoxy and rewrite the history books.

Our great relationship with Leicester City helped put a business graduate in the top flight for jobs. Talented graduate Abbie Tacey was part of the fabric of Leicester’s previous moments of glory and academic Dr Neil Carter has been sharing the details of the club’s proud history with fans.

Our connection with the team helped a Graduate Champion win her dream role, and we’ve celebrated with and been celebrated by the club and its backers.

Leicester Tigers

We have formed a unique partnership with Leicester Tigers, one of the best-known rugby clubs in the world, and the most successful club in English rugby union.

Tigers give tickets to our students and staff so they can attend all A-league and academy home matches free of charge, as well as ticket offers for first-team matches.

Varsity games, which see a showdown between student teams from DMU and the University of Leicester, are played at Tigers’ Welford Road stadium.

Both organisations are committed to working together to contribute to the public good. In the future, a focus for the collaboration will be the promotion of fitness and well-being among students and the local community.

A further aspect of the partnership involves DMU’s world-class research capacity, including how our holography expertise can revolutionise pitch-side advertising.

Leicester Hockey Club

Our unique partnership with Leicester Hockey Club is nurturing future champions not just in sport but in the workplace too.

The women’s club is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the UK, having won the European Club Championship Trophy in 2014 and provided numerous international players.

Through this partnership, DMU hockey teams are benefiting from expert coaching from the club and the chance to travel abroad as part of #DMUglobal.

Recently students travelled with the club to Barcelona where they met teams from all over the world as part of the 68th International Hockey Reyes Tournament.

DMU students are benefiting in Leicester as well though, with Leicester Hockey Club offering student experiences in everything from umpiring to media work and administration to help their CVs stand out and prepare them for the world of work.

All of this is helping to raise the profile of hockey among students and Leicester as a whole, with the club aiming to create a men’s team that is on the elite level of the women’s over the next 10 to 15 years.
