Apply now! DMU Global announces latest opportunities for students to broaden their horizons with incredible trips overseas.

How would you like to learn more about brands and advertising in the Big Apple, head to the booming tech zone of Dublin’s Silicon Docks, study the latest diabetes treatments in Dubai or learn about performing arts, drama and dance in Barcelona?

They are just four of the incredible 26 opportunities being offered to De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students by the award-winning DMU Global team. Full details of each of these trips can be found on the DMU Global website.

GLOBAL 22 - Fiji main

DMU students were in Fiji earlier this year

DMU Global gives students the opportunities to travel and experience different cultures in cities around the globe to enhance their studies and put them on the front foot when it comes to future employment.

Applications for the latest raft of overseas opportunities are open NOW and students have until 9am on Monday 24 October to submit their application.

There are 600 places available in total across the 26 trips, that also include attending the Berlin International Film Festival, studying architecture in Austria, attending the world’s leading trade show for lingerie and swimwear in Paris.

To help make overseas opportunities more accessible, there is a DMU Global Bursary available for each of the 600 students to help cover costs, amounting to £150 each for trips to Europe and £400 each for trips outside of Europe. There is also additional financial support available for people who qualify for Widening Participation Funding, such as people with disabilities, those from low income households or students with a background in care.

DMU Global’s determination to open up overseas opportunities to all ensured Umaymah Dakri, 21, who studied Speech and Language Therapy at DMU, was able to fly to Berlin in June this year for a DMU Global trip looking at how Germany’s capital is working towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Umaymah, who has Spina Bifida and uses a wheelchair, said students with mobility needs should also apply for DMU Global trips, based on her positive experiences.

Arrangements were made to ensure bus travel, passenger assistance at the airport and a personal assistant in Berlin were all in place to for Umaymah.

She said: “It is fantastic that there is this amount of support for a disabled person and it makes sure I can enjoy a DMU Global trip and do the same things as everyone else does.”

Leo Smith, Head of Global Mobility at DMU, said: “Being able to offer a rich and diverse range of international opportunities to our students this academic year is what the DMU Global programme is all about! We want as many students as possible to benefit from an international experience whilst studying here, and encourage everyone to submit an application for a trip.”

 GLOBAL 22 - Los Angeles

A trip to LA is one of the 26 global opportunities

“I have seen thousands of students head overseas thanks to DMU Global and I still get excited about how much of an impact these trips will have on every student and open their eyes to what they can achieve in their lives.”

It is important that each student interested in being part of a trip checks they meet the eligibility criteria and carefully fill out an application form which will ask them to explain why they want to take part and how the trip will enhance their studies.

More details of the support available to students participating in DMU Global opportunities can be found on the DMU Global website.

If you’d like to learn more about DMU Global and the international opportunities open to students, DMU Global’s Global Opportunities Week will take place between Monday 3 – Wednesday 5 October. This will include a number of presentations and the opportunity for an informal chat with the team.
