Newarke Café undergoes redesign to become 'Coffee House'


De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has started the new term with the opening of the newly refurbished Newarke Café, now known as the Coffee House.

Opening last week the newly refurbished café is DMU’s latest development on campus following the £5.5 million extension to the Hugh Aston Building- The Yard.

The new building and café refurbishment is part of a continuous drive to develop the Leicester Castle Business School, as well as providing an inspiring working environment for students.

Conference and Catering Assistant Manager, Ellie Ward said: “We’ve been working over the summer to improve our campus facilities and The Newarke Café has undergone a redesign and transformation into the Coffee House.

“The refurbishment focused on improving the customer experience and includes the relocation of the main entrance door to Magazine Square, an additional service point and more seating.

“The menu offer has also been refreshed to include freshly made sandwiches, wraps and baguettes, alongside a hot food to go cabinet, with hot pots, freshly baked pastries and pasties and filled bagels.”

Staff and students can enjoy the Coffee House on campus Monday-Friday, 7.30am-4pm.

Sue Newman, Associate Director of Estates at DMU, said: “The focus of the café redesign was to enhance the customer experience and we feel the improvements to the access, service and facilities have achieved that.

“We’ve enhanced the menu to provide more options whilst still offering customer favourites such as the Costa coffee. Additional seating has provided more space for people to enjoy and we’re really proud of the finished look.”

As DMU continues to develop, Umesh Desai Director of Estates & Facilities added: “Working with our catering partner Chartwells to do this,the Coffee House is something different, fresh and new. I am quite excited about all of this, it’s something that will benefit the faculty and wider university tremendously.”
