Revisiting Diasporas, Entanglements and Transruptions in this Moment of Political Calamity

The Stephen Lawrence Research Centre warmly invites you to take part in our forthcoming symposium on 25th of March 2020. This invitation marks a momentous and timely occasion to reflect upon the 20th anniversary of Dr Barnor Hesse’s edited collection, Un/Settled Multiculturalisms - Diasporas, Entanglements, Transruptions.

In the aftermath of the election of Donald Trump and the UK’s decision to leave the European Union, the SLRC sees the anniversary of this publication as highly significant.

We are currently witnessing reinvigorated and emboldened forms of white nationalism alongside an ongoing reconfiguration of what it means to be Black and Brown within these past and post diasporas locations.

The symposium seeks to revisit a range ideas explored within the book in order to question and challenge existing orthodoxies and political modalities of resistance and solidarities in the face of continuing articulations of white nationalism and white supremacy.

The symposium will be followed by Dr Barnor Hesse's Distinguished Lecture.
