Personal profile

John has a background in industry - where he has worked for more than 10 years as a technical consultant in the finance industry. This has included consulting in America, Trinidad, Denmark and the UAE.

In 2009 he made the move to academia and is now a full-time member of the Cyber Security Centre. He has experience teaching programming at both an under-graduate and post-graduate level and is currently module leader for an MSc Object Oriented programming module.

His research interests include cyber-security and computational intelligence and he is particularly interested in automated vulnerability identification, fuzz testing and genetic algorithms. His published papers include works on Intrusion Detection, Self-Organising Maps and Neural Networks.

He has a keen interest in the development process as a whole and spends an irresponsible amount of time switching between Vim and Eclipse and back again.
