Personal profile

Dr. George Okeyo is a VC2020 Lecturer in Computer Science in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at De Montfort University. After completing his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya, he worked as a Tutor at the JKUAT-MMS IT Center.

He later got absorbed as a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology of JKUAT, rising to become an Assistant Lecturer after obtaining an M.Sc. in Information Systems from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. In 2009 he won a Vice Chancellor’s Research Studentship (VCRS) from the University of Ulster, UK, to undertake studies leading to award of Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, in 2013.

He returned to JKUAT after his PhD to become a Lecturer in Computer Science for five years and also Chairman/Head of Department of Computing for four years. As Head of Department, he led the department to start two successful PhD programs in Computer Science and Information Technology, respectively. George has extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

In addition, he has supervised one PhD candidate to completion (in 2016) and two others submitted their work for examination in September 2018. In addition, he has supervised over twenty-eight (28) M.Sc. theses to completion in Software Engineering (over 6), Computer Systems (over 22), with over three quarters as first supervisor.

Research interests/expertise

My research interests includes theoretical and applied research in Data Analytics, Internet of Things, Ambient Intelligence, Activity Recognition, and Privacy and Trust. Application areas include smart cities, systems biology, health systems optimization, and food and nutrition security.
