Steven Edkins has extensive experience working in both voluntary and statutory mental health services as a social worker. He was an approved social worker under the powers of the Mental Health Act 1983(2007).
His interest in social work teaching initially led him into teaching students on practice placements and he subsequently qualified as a social work Practice Educator. Steven then moved into undergraduate teaching on the BA (Hons) Social Work course here at De Montfort University. He has attained a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and he is now looking to commence the Masters in Research here at DMU.
His main teaching responsibilities are social work law and policy and practice placements but he teaches across a wide selection of course modules.
He has been a Programme Leader for the past 3 years and has recently been responsible for leading the team through the revalidation of the programme and endorsement by the College of Social Work in line with recent national developments in social work education.
