Steve has carried out numerous research projects, of which the most recent was a Joseph Rowntree-funded project on 'Political Leadership in England and Wales'( with Vivien Lowndes and others), published in  2005.

Consultancy work

Steve has carried out numerous consultancy projects, most recently on the effectiveness of Overview and Scrutiny arrangements in various authorities, the impact of Local Government reorganisation projects (likewise) and managing in a political environment.
