Personal profile

I am a VC2020 Lecturer in Enterprise at the Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University. I joined the School in April 2018, after completing my PhD in Industrial Economics at the University of Nottingham.

While in Nottingham, I was also a Teaching Assistant for a number of undergraduate modules, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and the economics of innovation.

Along with the doctoral degree, I hold an MSc in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham; a BSc in Economics from the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation; as well as BEng/MEng in Computer Science from "MATI" – Russian State Technological University n.a. K.E. Tsiolkovsky.

My research interests lie broadly in the area of empirical industrial organisation and strategy. More specifically, I am interested in studying economic and strategic functions of intellectual property rights, with a focus on patents and trademarks.

Another topic I have pursued continuously to date is standard setting: here, I examine why companies choose to participate in voluntary standard-setting organisations and what factors can influence their decision.

The third area of my research relates to behaviour strategy – more precisely, to the impact of CEO characteristics on organisational functioning. Finally, some time ago I was involved in studying such topics as the effect of innovation policy on economic development in Sweden; the ability of the labour market to sustain innovation processes in transition economies; and the role of deposit insurance in preventing bank runs.

Prior to my academic career, I gained professional and managerial experience working for the Russian government and for the country's leading financial institutions.
