Kennedy is a doctoral researcher in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management (OB/HRM) with interest in Indigenous African theorizing and management, International HRM, transfer of practice and knowledge to emerging economics and cross-cultural communication and Afro-centric leadership. Kennedy is also an Associate Lecturer in HRM/OB Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University Leicester.

My teaching experience with De Montfort University has enabled me to develop and learn key skills such as the ability to work well with a range of people within a multidisciplinary team, as well as interpersonal communication skills. This experience continues to fuel the passion and commitment to pursue a career in education and knowledge sharing

Kennedy is also passionate about multidisciplinary research, tutoring and impacting students. 

Kennedy is also a member of the research affiliate group of People Organisations and Work Institute (POWI) in De Montfort University Leicester UK.

Title

Retheorizing Performance Appraisal in the African Context: The case for Nigeria

Abstract

The study offers theoretical and instrumental look into the dynamics of performance appraisal by factoring culture and context. Performance appraisal is one of the tools extensively used in organisation and its research cuts across Human resource management, organisational psychology and industrial relations. There is an evidential debate that most theories of management emanate from the “Western” block diffused across to non-Western societies to adopt if they must have successful organisations. However, the context of application matters for any management to be termed successful. Africa, has a unique environment that needs to factored in while engaging with the continent and this uniqueness is spelled out in its indigenous management practice of Ubuntu which is shared across the continent. Although, there are evidences of institutional voids and a fragmented milieu which accounts for the inapplicability of these western approaches nevertheless the tension and contradiction goes beyond this.
