Mr Christopher Jones

My career has been both that of a practitioner and an academic. My experience includes nineteen years as a senior academic in the UK, five as the Dean of the Faculty of Hull School of Architecture at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside (now the University of Lincoln) and five as Head of Hull School of Architecture.

My work experience includes Social Housing at the GLC and PRP Architects in London , PRP won the Award for the Best Housing Design in Europe twice during my period with them, and my work included the Social Centre, Crèche and Student Housing at the University of Sussex. I formed ABC Architects Hull in 1984, not for profit, Cooperative and built a number of Community Projects for which I won the AD Award. Working with the wider community since the 1970’s I have been  a leading practitioner in Social engagement in Architecture including Chair of the Association of Community Technical Aid Centres and work with Governors Design Teams in the USA, Community Design Action Teams and Housing Action Trusts in the UK and Holland.

In 1998, I established Atlantic Architects in Dublin and undertook mixed porfolio of project work ,including Dunree Museum and Yeats College, Galway. Recent projects include Cisco’s Headquarters in the West of Ireland, and a new urban space in the centre of Galway City with Commercial, Office, Residential Accommodation and Museum. The West point Development of Commercial, Residential, Social Centre and Crèche in Westport is my largest completed project with a contract value of € 28,000,000.

I formed Chris Jones Architecture London in 2010, and I am currently designing three contemporary low energy houses in North Kent and Galway, Ten Houses in East Ham and a Community Centre in Hoxton.

My experience includes major Master planning projects such as the Central Lincoln Master plan, the North Hull Housing Action Trust Master plan and more recently a New Town in Co. Galway

My nineteen years of Academic experience includes that of Senior and Principal Lecturer, Course Leader, Head of School and finally Dean of Faculty and member of the Academic  Board at Hull School of Architecture. I was External Examiner at the Macintosh School  of Architecture, Glasgow. I have a wide range of Research Papers and published Work in the areas of Built Practice , Sustainablity and Teaching Methods. I was Visiting Professor at the Univesity of Adelaide and the University of Minnesota. I am currently Principal Lecturer at Leicester School of Architecture.

The current outputs relate to Design quality, the use of offsite prefabrication and teaching methods in building technology.
