Personal profile

I am currently Associate Professor Head of Leicester School of Architecture, which includes Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Surveying (2020), Quantity Surveying (2020) and a suite of Masters Courses. 

My career as an Architect has been both that of a practitioner and an academic.

My experience includes being Interim Head of Art, Design and Architecture at DMU, five years as the Dean of the Faculty of Hull School of Architecture at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside (now the University of Lincoln) and five as Head of Hull School of Architecture.

My work experience includes Social Housing at the GLC and PRP Architects in London. I formed ABC Architects Hull in 1984, not for profit, Cooperative and built a number of Community Projects for which I won the AD Award. Working with the wider community since the 1970’s I have been a leading practitioner in Social engagement in Architecture including Chair of the Association of Community Technical Aid Centres and work with Governors Design Teams in the USA, Community Design Action Teams and Housing Action Trusts in the UK and Holland.

In 1998, I established Atlantic Architects in Dublin and undertook mixed portfolio of project work, including Dunree Museum and Yeats College, Galway, Cisco’s Headquarters in the West of Ireland, and a new urban space in the centre of Galway City with Commercial, Office, Residential Accommodation and Museum. The Westpoint Development of Commercial, Residential, Social Centre and Crèche in Westport is my largest completed project with a contract value of € 28,000,000.

I formed Chris Jones Architecture London in 2010, undertaking contemporary low energy houses in Kent

My experience includes major Master planning projects such as the Central Lincoln Master plan, the North Hull Housing Action Trust Master plan and a New Town in Co. Galway

I have a wide range of Research Papers and published Work in the areas of Built Practice, Sustainability and Teaching Methods. I was Visiting Professor at the University of Adelaide and the University of Minnesota.

The current outputs relate to Design quality, the use of offsite prefabrication and teaching methods in building technology.
