Exploring Time in South Indian Music...

...with violinist Jyotsna Srikanth and the Ligeti Quartet.

As part of our Indian Classical Music Series with the Darbar Arts Festival, we're delighted to be welcoming violinist Jyotsna Srikanth for a wonderful concert exploring Time in South Indian Music.

The first half of this concert, with mridangam and ghatam percussion, is a whirlwind historical sketch featuring composers from the 15th to the 20th century in several different rhythmic cycles. The second half features the Leicester premiere of her own Raga Seasons violin concerto performed with the Ligeti Quartet – depicting the six seasons of the Hindu calendar.

Full event details.

A Summer Night of Jazz

For the last concert in our 2017-2018 DMU International Jazz Series, we're excited to be hosting the Quentin Collins - Brandon Allen Quartet at the Campus Centre on the 14th of June.

Co-led by Quentin Collins and Brandon Allen, the hardest hitting Trumpet/Sax frontline in the business, and with the masterful Ross Stanley on Organ and the award winning Lloyd Haines on Drums, QCBA’s music is a melting pot of Jazz, Brazilian and Funk.

Always soulful and always swinging they produce music for today steeped in the recent past but also looking towards tomorrow.

DMU Music is thrilled to host the QCBA Quartet in the gorgeous Atrium of our Campus Centre on 14th June at 8:00 pm.
