Diya Rattanpal LLB (Hons)
Equality and Diversity Executive, De Montfort Students’ Union
Diya Rattanpal is the newly elected Equality and Diversity Executive at De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU), she commenced her post on 1July 2019. Diya has been nominated by the Executive Team at DSU to join the University’s Board of Governors to act as the student representative.
A recent graduate of Law LLB (Hons), Diya has been heavily involved in DSU during her time at DMU, representing her cohort as a Course Representative, the wider student community as a Student Champion and a committee member of the Feminist Society.
Her role involves ensuring that the university is inclusive towards all students at every level, as well as developing equality and diversity strategies to hear the views of all 27,000 students at DMU. Whilst in this position, she aims to help tackle and reduce the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) attainment gap, as well as tackling discrimination in all forms.
During this upcoming year, she has come into her role at DSU with the strong belief that we need to be respecting, representing and celebrating all students here at DMU.
Diya identifies as a feminist first and foremost, as well as an lgbtq+ activist. She hopes to start her Masters in Investigative Journalism in the upcoming year.
