DMU and Brazil
DMU enjoys close links to universities and other academic institutions in Brazil and this year organised the first of what is planned to be regular trips from our campus to South America.
Earlier this year, a group of students and staff enjoyed a 10-day study trip to Santa Maria and São Paulo through #DMUglobal, DMU’s pioneering internationalisation programme.
#DMUglobal aims to give the majority of students an international experience during their time at university. Our students studied alongside students at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), immersed themselves in Brazilian culture and saw some of the incredible sights Brazil has to offer.
While on a trip to São Paulo, the students met Brazil football legend Cloadaldo, who was a member of Brazil’s legendary 1970 World Cup squad.
Two DMU students, Ryan Dawson and Amu Silver, worked with the 2014 World Cup committee in Sao Paulo, where the majority of international teams will stay.
In 2013, DMU offered a respite break to UFSM students following a devastating fire in which 150 students died. The students and staff formed close friendships with DMU students which endure today.
