How can DMU help students get a part-time job?
We can help you find vacancies through DMUworks|, our online vacancy service. We can also direct you to other key sources of advertised and unadvertised vacancies.
We run careers fairs and events that advertise part-time work including DMUworks Jobs Fair in January and Leicestershire Student and Graduate Fair in November.
Our careers advisers can help you develop your job search strategy with advice on how to approach employers, how to develop a CV and cover letter for part-time work and how to deal with interviews.
We can also advise you on how to get part-time and voluntary work relevant to your current course and career ideas - and how to use the experience to develop your graduate applications.
Student ambassadors
Student ambassadors help us by talking to, and sharing their knowledge and experience with prospective students, teachers and careers advisers. It's a very rewarding role and you even get paid!
We offer three levels of pay so that the more experienced and competent you become, the more pay you will receive.
Student ambassadors work with students of all ages and take on a variety of jobs including:

Where can students find part-time work in Leicester?
This depends on a range of factors including the type of work you want to do, the hours you want to or are able to work and the skills and experience you have or want to develop. In practice many students working part-time do casual work in call centres, shops, bars and restaurants - partly because these jobs are easiest to find and fit in with study commitments.

Use friends and contacts
Most part-time jobs are filled by word of mouth and you need to be prepared to use your personal networks to look for part-time work.
Direct approach to employers
You should be prepared to contact any organisation you want to work for, to ask for a named contact, sell yourself over the telephone and send in a CV to the manager. If calling in to local shops, bars, restaurants etc choose a time when it’s likely to be less busy and aim to give your CV to the manager in person.
