Leicester: live, learn and love it
Leicester is a naturally colourful and confident city, hot from a winning streak and embracing the fresh attention as an opportunity to share its success stories. Leicester has been named as one of the best cities in which to live and work in the UK, ahead of London and Cardiff.
Living history and sporting glory drew the world’s gaze most recently. De Montfort University (DMU) is proud to have been a part in both the drama around Richard III’s re-burial in Leicester Cathedral, and in Leicester City’s amazing success in the Premier League and in Europe. We believe our students and graduates are a vital part of the city’s exciting present, too, and we encourage them to go on and shape its future.
Brilliant teamwork powered 5,000-1 shots Leicester City, our Official Higher Education Partners, to the Premier League title and on into the Champions League. We’ve been on the same side for years, two great city institutions working together on exciting initiatives. Our students and staff have seen the saga play out thanks to ticket offers, and students get work experience opportunities at the club’s King Power stadium.
Meanwhile the power of a king – even a dead one – created new chapters in Leicester’s 2,000-year history; DMU is closely linked to the legend of Richard III. The university has also spent £4.2 million refurbishing the Grade I-listed Leicester Castle, giving the previously disused building a new lease of life as the home of Leicester Castle Business School. It is a space which, in nearly 1,000 years of history, has welcomed kings, queens and important writers.
And when you’re not studying, Leicester is a great place for relaxation and stimulation, to shop, soak up culture, to experience many cultures, and to buy and eat food from every part of the planet. Leicester is big enough to offer something new every day, and just the right size so you feel right at home. So … want to be part of the story?
