Derby Teaching Hospitals

We usually have 5 (12 month) pre-registration training places. Exact numbers will be advertised on the ‘National Recruitment Scheme’ (ORIEL) in June.

Training is based at the Royal Derby Hospital, one of the regions newest hospitals. The building has a light and airy feel, enjoyed by both staff and patients.

In recent years the Trust has achieved high standards which have put it among the cleanest and safest hospitals in the country. The latest national inpatient survey puts us in the top 20 per cent of hospitals with high standards for safety and privacy and dignity.

In November 2013 Derby Hospitals won the inaugural, post Francis, Department of Health Award for Compassionate Care. This is a tremendous recognition of all the hard work and dedication of our staff.

The Trust is one of the largest employers in the region with more than 8,000 staff. Our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, combined with our clinical staff (many of whom are among the best in their field with national reputations) puts us in a strong position to further build on our excellent track record for the quality of service and experience of the patients we care for.

We are now using electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) throughout the Trust. This aims to reduce patient harm, improve practice and working lives.

The Pharmacy Department

The Trust's vision of "Taking pride in caring" is embedded in all that we do in pharmacy. The department has a reputation for innovation, excellence, and a proven commitment to education, training and personal development.

Our aim is to deliver consistent, high quality, safe, patient-focused interventions for better care and better value. We do this by providing a 24/7 on-site service utilising shift-working pharmacists and technicians, by ensuring our facilities are modern and utilise technologies such as an automated dispensing robot, and by having specialist pharmacist support at ward level to ensure prescribing is safe, effective and economic, delivering medicines information and support to our patients.

Our teams operate from bespoke pharmacy satellites which undertake a variety of roles, including specialist discharge dispensing, aseptic production, and chemotherapy preparation.

Improving medicines management is highest priority for the department, having introduced EPMA, we can offer trainees a chance to complete their pre-reg year in an up-to-date environment. We are always developing our services, therefore we are looking for talented individuals who can add value to the care we provide, grow with us and share in our ongoing success.Taking-Pride-Derby
