Nicholas Smith - Dance graduate

Nick graduated in 2010. Since then he has performed in his own work and with professional contemporary companies, including AR-Men in the UK and Tutu Reloaded in France.

He has been teaching on a freelance basis with Coventry Performing Arts Service as well as with the Boys Dancing project, which aims to get as many young men dancing in the West Midlands as possible.

He also teaches contemporary technique classes at various universities, colleges and studios.

Studying Dance at DMU provided Nick with a strong foundation and understanding of dance, which enabled him to build and develop an independent dance career.

During his final year he performed his own work and this was later performed professionally at a number of graduate dance platforms, including at Siobhan Davies Studios in London.

The performance practice module provided an excellent insight into dance company life. The rehearsal and creation processes were similar to those used in the professional companies he danced with after graduation.

His study of anatomy meant he could fast track a fitness instructing qualification. The skills he has gained from dance teaching and performing have been transferable in terms of teaching within the fitness industry too.
