Lewis Hatfull - Dance graduate
Lewis graduated in 2010. After graduation he worked as an intern at Dance 4, the national Dance Agency in the East Midlands. He completed the Cultural Events Management MA/Msc at DMU, which helped him focus on strategic thinking and business development.
He is now a Trainee Production Coordinator at Dragonfly Film and Television, supported through the Channel 4 production Trainee Scheme. Dragonfly works primarily with documentary, factual entertainment and factual programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky One, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
Lewis is involved with all aspects of production management; hiring all the crew and contracting the talent, scheduling the shoot, the edit and all post production paperwork including music and copyright; he works to deadlines and within tight budgets. His undergraduate course prepared him to work with all sorts of people in many different situations and ways. He learned how to collaborate effectively, to do individual and group presentations, building confidence in the communication, organization and delivery of material. Having to re-think his creative practice along new lines and to be open to new methods helped open up new ways of working creatively.
During his time at DMU, social networking as a practice on the programme was just really starting to take off and now he understands how important it is. He found his current post on Facebook while completing the MA.
Lewis says 'the programme helps you learn how to learn... the creative and intellectual challenges encourage you to think along different lines, but you still have room to find your own way through them'.
