Textile Design, Technology and Innovation MSc application portfolio advice

Your portfolio

For Textile Design, Technology and Innovation MSc, you may be joining from a design-led background or from a technical/engineering led background therefore the criteria for your portfolio will be very different.

Design led-backgrounds

We are interested to see what areas of textile design you have specialised in, whether you intend to pursue a specific area of the textile industry during and upon completion of the course and how the final project in term three could support your aspirations. This is a postgraduate programme that combines design with technical understanding therefore your portfolio should support your written statement, which illustrates your current educational and industrial experience, career aspirations and specific learning expectations from the course.

A good portfolio should indicate something of your personality, it should be clearly structured, easy to read and well presented. It should consist of quality work rather than quantity so be selective about what you show.

Technical/engineering led backgrounds

We are interested to see the background of your technical or engineering knowledge. This is a postgraduate programme that combines design with technical understanding therefore your portfolio should support your written statement, which illustrates your current educational and industrial experience, career aspirations and specific learning expectations from the course. We appreciate that your portfolio will be of a technical nature therefore we are looking for evidence of academic and industrial achievement. This could be in the form of but is not restricted to, digital images of project work, technical design drawings, CAD, publications.

Your evidence of technical achievement should be clearly structured, easy to read and well presented. It should consist of quality work rather than quantity so be selective about what you show.#
