Proficient Midwife Practice

This module will enable you to underpin your practice with evidence to support your skill development and promote confidence and articulation of rationales for your decision making.

It will enable you as practitioners to extend your theoretical knowledge base and integrate this knowledge with the clinical skills necessary for safe delivery of care.

Equal emphasis is placed upon both the development of clinical proficiency/confidence and the understanding of theoretical concepts underpinning practice. The module focus is on midwifery care of women within a multi professional context in various settings.

The practical aspects of the module will be predominately related to your own workplace and teaching strategies that promote independent learning will be utilized throughout.

Entry Criteria

  • Effective registration with the NMC / HPC or other relevant professional body. ESSENTIAL
  • Undertaken successful level 4/5 academic study. ESSENTIAL
  • Currently be employed in practice and have the support of their manager in undertaking the module. ESSENTIAL
  • Have a named mentor in clinical practice throughout the duration of the module. ESSENTIAL

This module runs once per academic year 10.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 16.00 hrs every second Tuesday starting on 8.10.2013 until 08.07.14 inclusive * except week 20.

This is a degree-level module in which you will be expected to produce assessed work at degree-level standard.
