Foundations in Neonatal Care
This module introduces key areas of specialist academic knowledge and associated specialist clinical practice that underpin the management of special care for the small, sick and/or premature neonate.
Critical analysis of the management of the small, sick and/or premature neonate requiring special care will be used to reflect upon and support the development of specialist clinical practice.
Critical discussion of the relationship between the altered anatomy and physiology of the small, sick and/or premature neonate requiring special care and their clinical management will be used to explore the rationale for existing specialist practice, resulting in the enhancement of neonatal care.
Current developments in specialist practice will be considered within the context of available resources for health care provision to critically appraise professional responsibilities of registrants within neonatal special care.
This module will also utilise personal clinical experience to promote evidenced based care using critical evaluation of specialist practice to enhance family centred and developmentally focused care for the small, sick and/or premature neonate requiring special care.
