Diversity in Sexual Health

This module is for nurses and allied health professionals with an interest in sexual health care. The module will enable practitioners from a range of backgrounds to explore and examine contemporary sexual health care issues with a focus on diversity. It covers sexually transmitted infections and HIV; contraception and unplanned pregnancy; sexuality issues; sexual exploitation and abuse; psychosocial, economic and political influences on sexual health care provision; personal factors such as age, gender, illness, disability, religion and culture and how these all impact on individual’s sexual well-being; as well as ethical, legal and professional perspectives. This will enable practitioners to gain the knowledge required to develop strategies to contribute to the sexual health and well-being needs of specific client groups.

Entry criteria:

  • Effective registration with appropriate professional statutory regulatory body
  • Ability to study to degree level (120 credits level 4/5)
  • Evidence of recent study

Return to study

SCPH 3101 is a degree-level module in which you will be expected to produce assessed work at degree-level standard. If it is sometime since you produced an academic essay or undertook other kinds of academically assessed work, you will be well advised to consider undertaking the Return to Study module (NMAH 2000) beforehand.
