At De Montfort University (DMU) we are committed to supporting students at all stages from application to graduation. We aim to explain the UCAS Tariff points system and how this relates to the qualifications you may currently be taking. You will find all you need to understand your university offers below.

What is the UCAS points system?

The UCAS Tariff is the points system which is used by universities and colleges to compare qualifications and for making offers to applicants. This system of points is used in the DMU undergraduate prospectus.

How do I work out what I need to meet my points offer?

If you are offered a place at university you will be required to achieve a certain number of points in your exams. You can work out how you can make up your points score from the tables above. However, there are a few other things you need to bear in mind. For these and examples of possible ways to accrue the necessary points please see below:

To meet your offer you can count points from:

  • Your A Level and VCE A Levels
  • Your AS Levels provided you also have at least two A Levels or a 12 unit VCE Double Award for degree courses. For HND courses AS Level points can be counted as long as you hold one A Level or 6 unit VCE A Level
  • A Levels, AS Levels, and VCE A Levels for degree courses provided you have at least one A Level AND one 6 unit VCE A Level.

Please note that:

  • Some subjects may require you to get a certain minimum number of points in a particular A Level or VCE A Level
  • Some courses may accept Key Skills points as part of your required points total
  • Mature students without the normal entry qualifications, but with appropriate experience may be admitted.
