Law and Lawyering: International Perspectives

Module code: LLBP 2060

Module description

In an age of increasing globalisation it is increasingly important that law graduates have an understanding and appreciation of different approaches to lawyering and the law and develop an international perspective on law. This module allows students to focus attention beyond the English legal system to study how law-work is carried out in other countries. The module comprises two parts: the first part focuses on working, studying and volunteering outside the UK looking at practical issues with a particular focus on opportunities related to law. The second part of the course is an introduction to comparative law and provides an introduction to the major legal systems of the world allowing students to focus on a particular non-English jurisdiction to form the topic of their assessment. The module covers the following main areas:

  • Comparative legal study
  • Lawyering abroad
  • Study and placement abroad.
  • Free movement of lawyers within the EU
  • Comparative legal education and training
