Introduction to HRM

Module description

The module is designed to introduce students to the basic building blocks for further study of Human Resource Management. As a Level One module it aims to encourage critical thinking and analysis and embed the use of Problem Based Learning within the programme.

In lectures and the student centred tutorial programme we will use case studies, videos and ask students to draw on their experience and emerging knowledge to demonstrate an understanding of the core principles of HRM; describe the practice and function of HRM in organisations; explain the purpose for adopting various HRM policies and practices; and explain the effect of external and internal context on the practice of HRM.

Assessments

  • Written literature review assignment: 20%
  • In-class test: 30%
  • Written portfolio assignment: 50%
