Module description

The aim of this module is to provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of criminal law and to equip them with the skills required for analytical reasoning and problem solving within this field of legal study.

  1.  The elements of criminal liability - actus reus and mens rea
  2.  Non-fatal offences against the person
  1. Assault
  2. Battery
  3. Offences contrary to the Offences Against the Person Act 1861
  4.  Homicide offences
  1. Murder
  2. Voluntary manslaughter
  3. Involuntary manslaughter
  4.  Property offences
  1. Theft
  2. Robbery
  3. Burglary
  4. Criminal damage
  5. Secondary participation
  6. General defences
  1. Infancy
  2. Insanity
  3. Intoxication
  4. Automatism
  5. Self defence

Online lectures: 8 hours

Written exam: 100%
