Widening Participation

DMU is an institution that has always attracted a high percentage of WP students. This is due in part to our geographical location in a multicultural city with a big focus on inclusiveness (Leicester) and a relatively low-skilled region (East Midlands). But it is also credit to sustained work, particularly in recent years, in school and college liaison, with national programmes like Aimhigher and with regional FE colleges and other partners, in vocational subject areas with strong links to employability. Finally, this is due to DMU's robust and extensive infrastructure of student support (academic, pastoral and financial) and our friendly, flexible and fair admissions policies and processes.

The team tasked with delivering DMU’s school and college WP support is our Widening Participation Service. Details of our work with local WP student s can be found in Pre-16 Support.
