The CCSR leads the ethics management activities of the EU Flagship Human Brain Project. As part of this work, the team has to understand, classify and priortise the many different ethical issues arising in this research. One of the novelties is the development of what we call the "Ethics Map", which provides an overview of the various issues.
The recent discussion by Andrew Maynard in The Conversation of the ethics of novel brain technologies demonstrates that this work is one way of dealing with the pressing issue in the future. Maynard's paper shows that the ethics of new neurotechnologies are an important and still very much open field. Our research will help develop good practice to ensure that the potential benefits of these technologies can be realised while keeping the risks under control.
