The project seeks to make a significant and original contribution to efforts being marshalled by the UK Research Councils.  

 

The approach used is based on De Montfort University's innovative agent-based electricity market modeling Framework known as CASCADE. The Framework will be developed to improve and expand its models of large-scale generation, the transmission network, the wholesale electricity market and the ability to model technology adoption and diffusion on long time-scales.

CEGADS is a practical trial of technology and business models aimed at connecting electricity consumers and generators within a community so that the benefits of small scale embedded generation accrue locally, transmission losses are minimised and efficient use is made of distribution network capacity. It is one of a group of projects granted by Innovate UK and EPSRC under the rubric of “Localised Energy Systems” with the aim of demonstrating delivery of the Community Energy Strategy| published by DECC|. The trial will be based in two villages in Oxfordshire, Shrivenham and Watchfield, where there is substantial local renewable generation (and the project is locally known as SWELL).
