The Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development is leading the EU H2020 funded project EDI-Net, the Energy Data Innovation Network. EDI-Net is using smart meter data, campaigns and networking to increase the capacity of public authorities to implement sustainable energy policy. EDI-Net will assist public authorities to use information from short time series (typically half hourly) energy and water smart meters and information from building users, to identify energy wastage, increase energy efficiency and enhance the capacity of public authorities to plan and implement sustainable energy policies.
The EDI-Net project will develop software to communicate energy and water smart meter data, and performance, through user friendly visualisations such as smiley faces, graphs, and league tables, and facilitate communication through an online discussion forum. The target audiences for the project are energy managers, building users, finance managers and decision-makers.  EDI-Net will be recruiting and supporting 20 additional public authorities each year for the next two years with training course taking place in Leicester, Catalunya and Nuremberg.
