Course
MSc Climate Change and Sustainable Development

I had been working as a sustainable energy consultant for over a year when I decided to study for an MSc at IESD. The course is structured so that it is possible to study part-time over 2 years and attending the University one day a week, which worked really well for me. There is also the option of distance learning.

My main interest is in the end-user aspects of energy use, and this was one of the few MSc courses that included a core module in the social and behavioural aspects of sustainability. The content of this course was excellent and I chose to undertake my final project on energy and human behavior.

I gained very valuable skills through this course, particularly in undertaking critical research, literature reviews and statistical analysis all of which I have been able to apply in my current role. The content of the course both built upon my existing knowledge in energy efficiency and renewable energy and broadened my awareness of sustainable development and climate change. I learnt a considerable amount from attending the seminars on a weekly basis. The sessions are very interactive and as the course takes on recent graduates and more mature students, the resulting debates and discussions are very stimulating!

I am currently working as a senior consultant and am working on a wide range of projects including building performance evaluation, demand side management and smart grid trials, building energy surveys, and strategic retrofit advice to social housing providers and local authorities. I believe the skills and knowledge I gained have helped me to take on greater responsibilities and move into this role.

I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to work in the area of sustainability and climate change to spring-board their career in this field
