About CEI

The Centre for Enterprise and Innovation (CEI) at De Montfort University is one of leading research centres in the UK in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation.  Working at the intersection of theory, policy and practice, the centre aims to inspire research in aspects of enterprise, entrepreneurship and innovation.  The CEI aspires to be the centre of research excellence with global reputation, innovative approach, and impact. We are passionate about research which makes a real difference and this is reflected in applied nature of our research to business practices and policy issues.

Located in De Montfort University, we celebrate the power of diversity and inclusion, believing that everyone should have the freedom to be, the freedom to inspire and the freedom to succeed. The University staff and student community reflect the population of Leicester as one of the most culturally diverse in the UK. This informs our Centre’s philosophy of intercultural entrepreneurship, which reflects the increasingly diverse national, ethnic and gender research base of students and staff; a proud tradition of international, intersectional and ethnic minority research; and a shared belief that intercultural entrepreneurship is an essential dimension for economic, social, and educational growth and development in civil society worldwide.

Our research addresses three key themes; inclusive entrepreneurship and context, entrepreneurial means and resources, and innovation in context. Within the key themes, members of the centre have developed a number of specialisms (ranging from ethnic entrepreneurship to ICT & entrepreneurship and (open) innovation). Our research has been published in the leading peer reviewed journals in management, small business and entrepreneurship, and we continue to engage with stakeholders (including policy makers and professional associations) to explore contemporary challenges that affect entrepreneurship and innovation across a wide variety of organizations.

The CEI’s research team is experienced in studying a wide range of themes in areas of entrepreneurship and innovation and in the use of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Our PhD students study a vibrant research degree programme under the supervision of the Centre’s members.

We are based in the Faculty of Business and Law at De Montfort University and we welcome enquiries from scholars and practitioner about potential collaborations and projects align with the aims and focus of the centre.
