Changing Role of the Housing Officer Frontline Futures

Changing Role of the Housing Officer - Frontline Futures

The Centre for Comparative Housing Research at De Montfort University (DMU), Leicester has been commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Wheatley Housing Group to reach out to those working in housing to ask for their views and examples of good practice, in order to analyse the current and changing competencies and characteristics of effective frontline housing staff and to see where further changes might take the sector in the future. This UK-wide project recognises the need for informed debate on the implications for those in leadership roles and staff of social landlords more generally. It builds on existing work, for example the CIH (2013) report: Learning today, leading tomorrow, an anthology of ‘think pieces’ which outlined a range of challenges of current significance to the housing and learning agendas.

The project team is led by Dr Jo Richardson of CCHR, who is working with consultant colleagues who have a wealth of experience in housing, learning and development and social media:

  • Lisa Barker
  • Jacq Furness
  • Kerry James; and
  • Merron Simpson

This web page on the DMU site will act as a key portal for the project; those interested to engage in the debate can link to our surveymonkey questionnaire| and to a list of background reading on this issue. Online social media debates will also be taking place, for example on twitter follow #housingff (housing frontline futures) to keep up to date with the conversation. We want to engage all parts of the UK in this important project.

If you have a case study that you would like to include in the research please contact Dr Jo Richardson who is the DMU project lead on jrichardson@dmu.ac.uk|
