MSc in Housing Studies graduate
“Deciding to complete a postgraduate course to further my career in housing is the best decision I could have made. When I started the course, I was working for a housing association as a neighbourhood officer but didn’t have a housing qualification. As the course was online, I was able to fit my studies in around my demanding full time job and by the end of the course, when I found out that I had passed my master’s with distinction, I felt confident enough to apply for a managerial position within the same housing association. I now work as a Business Improvement Manager, which involves reviewing policy, procedure and processes and implementing changes to drive performance improvement across our operations directorate.
“Taking my MSc at De Montfort University allowed me to complete research on a topic I am really passionate about: professionalism and the housing sector. My tutor - assigned to me because of her extensive knowledge in my chosen field - was there to provide constructive feedback throughout. Completing my dissertation on this topic really inspired me to make a difference, so I decided to apply for a position on the Chartered Institute of Housing South East Board. It’s now been a year since I was elected and I know none of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for completing my MSc. I am also thrilled that my research had been referenced in a CIH study on frontline housing roles.”
