International Centre for Sport History and Culture (ICSHC)

The International Centre for Sport History and Culture was established at De Montfort University in 1996 and is today widely acknowledged as the leading centre for the study of sport history in the world, with the foremost historians in the field on its staff.

The Centre’s academic team has published many critically acclaimed books and articles. Major conferences, including the annual ‘Historians on Sport’, have been organised by the Centre, often in conjunction with leading European institutions.

We provide an MA in Sport History and Culture, offer opportunities for postgraduate and PhD research students and we are one of three European institutions, along with Université de Neuchâtel (Switzerland) and SDA Bocconi – School of Management (Milan) which work with FIFA and the Centre International D’Etude du Sport (CIES, Switzerland) to offer the FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.

Here at the International Centre for Sport History and Culture we share the belief that the study of sport can help illuminate not just the history of recreation but of society and its culture as a whole.

"De Montfort University can claim to have established the International Centre for Sport History and Culture as the leading centre for the study of sports history in the world"

Joseph S. Blatter, President of FIFA
