Technology Ethics Procedures

The University has adopted a policy regarding the protection of individuals who are the subjects of research including student projects. It follows the guidelines of the Helsinki Declaration of Human Rights to assess all studies that involve human volunteers.

According to University regulations all research projects need to undergo ethical review. This includes:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate final year projects on all degree programmes (eg HND, BSc, MSc)
  • Research degree projects (eg MPhil, PhD)
  • Research Grant applications made by staff
  • Contract research and consultancy

To apply for ethical approval in the Faculty of Technology, please email the following to Anne Smith amsmith@dmu.ac.uk:

  • Ethical application form - signed by your supervisor and yourself (electronic signatures are ok)
  • Registration form
  • Other supporting documentation (eg questionnaire, consent form, etc) - sample consent documents can be found here.
