Cinema and Television History (CATH) Research CentrePartnershipsThe Centre places considerable importance on external partnerships, both formal and informal. Links with the British Film Institute are well established, and members contribute to the screenonline web site, notes and commentaries accompanying BFI DVD releases and Southbank screenings, and significant publications to Palgrave’s BFI imprint. CATH Centre member Laraine Porter is Director of the annual BFI British Silent Film Festival, which this year will be at Phoenix Square, the new state-of-the-art digital media centre in Leicester, which provides a showcase for the Centre’s work and a vital interface with the wider community. That community is also reached via the Centre’s partnership with the DVD releasing company Odeon Entertainment. A new partnership with the UK Film Council is also in development, and talks with other media organisations are ongoing. There are, in addition, excellent working relationships with other British university departments such as those at Warwick, Hull, Leicester and Portsmouth, and overseas departments in Austria, Germany, Spain, Australia and the USA. Archive SourcesLeicester is home to the Media Archive of Central England (MACE), an important resource for CATH Centre researchers, who also enjoy unique access to the tens of thousands of film stills, pressbooks, posters, and trade and fan magazines that constitute the Steve Chibnall Archive.
