Image courtesy of the Steve Chibnall archive CATH has teamed up with BECTU, the media and entertainments union, on a pilot project transcribing and annotating oral history testimonies from people working in the film and TV industries. The BECTU History Project started recording in 1987 and now holds over 600 interviews, varying in length from 30 minutes to several hours; from people working in all areas of the industry and going back to the silent era. The collection includes many famous names like Lindsay Anderson, Richard and David Attenborough and Sheila Hancock as well as unsung people who worked behind the scenes in design, costume, continuity, editing and lighting etc. The resource offers a unique and valuable insight into the history of the film and TV industries and CATH’s pilot project will create ways for this material to be more readily available online for public and academic research. CATH’s involvement continues the work of the University of East Anglia’s British Cinema History Research Project and will involve digitising, transcribing, editing and annotating the following transcripts:
