Thanks for your interest in Machinima Europe 2007 Festival. Unfortunately this year is over but details for the 2008 Festival will be posted on this site so keep checking! The following information is relating to the programme for 2007.

10.00 - Registration

Panel discussions and live sessions
(Sessions are expected to last approx. 1 hour to give you an opportunity to watch some of the screenings!)

10.30 - Welcome and introduction to the day

10.45 - 10 Years of Machinima
Presentation by Paul Marino, Executive Director of the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences, commemorating the first ten years of the use of game engines in real-time for the creation of Machinima

12.00 - Tools for making Machinima
Introduction: Hugh Hancock, Director of Strange Company. A panel of experts will introduce some of the most prominent Machinima authoring tools

13.00 - Live performance: Re-Imaging the Future of Sound
Introduction: Professor Andrew Hugill.
Martyn Ware (founding member of Human League and Heaven 17) and his colleagues from the Illustrious Company present their latest work, including opportunities for Q&A.

14.00 - Distributing and promoting your Machinima
Chair: Professor Sue Thomas
What format should I use when I export my movie? Which sites should I use to publicise my work? Where can I hook up with the Machinima community? The members of the Machinima Europe Board will answer these questions for you in this panel discussion.

14.45 - Legal roundtable
Chair: tbc
A panel of legal experts and Machinimators will discuss some of the legal issues around making Machinima, and the latest developments in the gaming world.

16.00 - Rooster Teeth
The creators of the infamous Red Versus Blue series, which recently released its 100th and final film of the series, will showcase their work.

16.45 - Summary and close of the day

Screenings
Throughout the day, a full programme of nominated films submitted to the Festival Awards will be screened. Screenings include a number of World, European and Festival Premiere’s – full details of the screenings programme will be announced nearer the date.

Exhibition areas
Food and drink will be available throughout the day.

Alcohol will be served in the Students’ Union bar throughout the day – sorry no under 18s allowed.

The food court area will host an exhibition, including demonstrations of some of the latest software tools used to create Machinima.

17.00 - Depart

Awards Ceremony
Saturday evening, the winners of the Festival Awards will be announced at an invitation only ceremony – the winning films will be screened on Sunday.

10.45 - Machinima in the mainstream
Chair: Visiting Professor and CEO of Sleepydog, Toby Moore
Panel with members of Rooster Teeth and Paul Marino, Executive Director of Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences discuss the impact that Machinima is having on mainstream media.

12.00 - European Machinima
Introduction: tbc
A panel comprising some of Europe’s most celebrated and prolific machinimators will showcase and discuss their work so far. With Alex Chan, independent film-maker, and Hugh Hancock, Director of Strange Company and author of ‘Machinima for Dummies’.

14.00 - Machinima as digital performance
Chair: Dr Tracy Harwood
Artists from different backgrounds discuss their approach, with Frank Dellario, Director of The ILL Clan, recently bought by Electric Sheep Company, and Ricard Gras, former De Montfort University student and now Creative Director of La-Interactiva and member of the European Machinima Board.

16.00 - Live performance: Friedrich Kirschner
Introduction: Ricard Gras, Creative Director of La-Interactiva
Friedrich is a multi-award winning machinimator and member of AMAS. He will present some of his live work.

16.45.1 Summary and close of the festival

Screenings
Throughout the day, a full programme of winning and nominated films will be screened. Screenings include a number of World, European and festival premiere’s – full details of the screenings programme will be announced nearer the date.

Festival winning films will be announced Saturday evening and screened as part of a special showcase on Sunday.

Exhibition Areas

17.00 - Depart

Leicester Marathon: Sunday 14 October 07

Please note that on Sunday 14 October, the Leicester Marathon is taking place. Runners will be approaching DMU campus via Grasmere Street, turning right onto Mill Lane and then left onto the Gateway and off up through Castle View. All these roads will be closed to drivers.

Attendees to the Machinima Festival on this day will therefore have to access campus via Oxford Street and the top end of Mill Lane, turn left onto Gateway to access Deacon Street Car Park.

Marathon organisers have assured us that diversion signs will be in place. But we apologise for any inconvenience caused to Festival visitors. Maps are available on this site. Please call 08459 45 46 47 should you have any queries.
