At DMU, you will be taught by academics who are leading experts in their fields and whose research is respected around the world. Our international students' feedback showed that we are fourth out of 81 universities surveyed globally.

De Montfort University has built a significant international reputation as a research institution and achieved excellent recognition in the UK Government's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). In the 2008 RAE, DMU received the fourth highest average score of all universities in the UK for research excellence in English. Forty three per cent of DMU's research activity across 19 subjects was rated in the top two categories, 'internationally excellent' (3 star) and 'world leading' (4 star). 

3. English language support

Our high quality Centre for English Language Learning| offers an English language course for all international students who are due to begin their studies, and ongoing support is available throughout your studies. We are one of only 44 higher education institutions in the UK which are accredited by the British Council. Our English language support was ranked highly by the International Student Barometer: a method of assessing how satisfied international students are with their course and university.

The university contributes a great deal to the creative industries, with skilled DMU graduates working in areas from fashion to computer games programming. DMU's groundbreaking Institute of Creative Technologies| carries out pioneering research into new creative fields and is recognised by companies such as Microsoft as leading the world in creative innovations and collaborations.

6. Part-time work

Leicester is a student-focused city with plenty of part-time jobs for students – many of our international students work during their studies, which is great for improving their language skills and helps them to experience different aspects of British culture. Typical student jobs include working in bars, pubs, cafés, restaurants, offices and shops.

Each year DMU offers a range of scholarships| and fee discounts for our international students. 

8. Links with professional bodies

Many courses are accredited by professional bodies, ensuring you get the skills that employers need. Plus, students can sometimes gain additional professional qualifications and exemptions in addition to their degree.

We have a wide range of accommodation in comfortable, modern halls of residence that are on, or very near, campus. What is more, students in Leicester pay on average 50 per cent less for accommodation and living costs than students in London and Oxford.

10. Excellent Library facilities

The Kimberlin Library| is open 24 hours a day, five days a week and offers comprehensive information resources for all students: more than 400,000 books; 2,500 print journal subscriptions; access to more than 14,000 electronic titles; a large collection of videos, CDs, DVDs and slides; more than 500 computer workstations; 1,200 study places; a bookshop; and experienced staff who are dedicated to supporting learning. The new Learning Zone and café provide a fantastic environment for group and individual study with unlimited Internet access and syndicate rooms. 

11. Award-winning student support

DMU's Student Services| team provides support and guidance to all students. They can assist with many different issues and offer dedicated international student support for anyone in need of help with domestic, academic, visa, financial or health concerns. Our student advisory centre came fourth out of all universities included in the ISB. We also offer special faith provisions at DMU (ranked top 10 in the ISB) and cater for students of many different religions.

Leicester is in the middle of England, making it the ideal base for exploring the rest of the country. It is just 30 minutes from East Midlands Airport and is within two hours' drive of major UK airports such as Heathrow|, Gatwick|, Stansted|, Luton|, Birmingham| and Manchester|.

It is well served by the motorway network, with the M1 – a major route connecting the Midlands and the North of England with London and the South East of the country – running next to the city.

Direct train links run throughout the day between Leicester and the Eurostar terminal at London St Pancras, meaning mainland Europe is within easy reach.
