International student support

By coming to De Montfort University (DMU) you are embarking on an exciting and life-changing adventure, but you may still need some support along the way.

As an international student, you will have a range of support available to you that begins even before you set foot on campus and continues right up until the moment you graduate.

Support on arrival

If you are arriving in the UK, you might want to use one of our coach pick-ups from Heathrow Airport|; these operate at peak arrival times in July, August and September. We also run new arrivals information sessions, campus tours, welcome breakfasts and other activities to help you find your way around and get used to your surroundings.

International Welcome Week

International Welcome Week takes place before the start of the autumn term and is designed to help you to get to know the city, meet other new students and settle in before your studies begin. All the activities are free and include:

Social events
Tours around the city and the DMU campus
Trips to places of interest including Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace)
Information sessions and practical advice on looking for jobs, adjusting to British culture, healthcare and opening a bank account

In 2012, International Welcome Week will run from Monday 17th until Friday 21st September. We'll be operating coach pick-ups from Heathrow Airport over the previous weekend. Further information about International Welcome Week and an online booking form will be available here| from June 2012.

Trips and Visits

Throughout the year we run trips and visits at weekends to other towns, cities and tourist attractions in the UK. Previous trips have includes: Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Liverpool, Windsor Castle, Cambridge and Chatsworth House! We email students to publicise each trip in advance, but you can also contact us at internationalsupport@dmu.ac.uk| for more information.
