Postgraduate Study

Welcome to the Faculty of Humanities and the exciting postgraduate community we have here.

Our broad range of taught courses makes for an exciting mix of students, who have opportunities to meet at our numerous social events, the annual postgraduate conference and frequent research seminars and in our dedicated Graduate Centre which provides study space and computing facilities for postgraduate students.

Whether you are looking at a traditional Masters programme that focuses on extending your intellectual development and prepares you for higher level research, or at one of our industry accredited vocational courses, you can be assured of a highly experienced and dedicated staff team who will support you towards a more confident and independent style of study at postgraduate level.

As well as the academic support, as a postgraduate student you will also benefit from enhanced borrowing rights at our Kimberlin library, dedicated accommodation, support from our Academic Guidance, English language support for international students and of course full access to the range of support services at DMU including money and welfare, counselling, the Health Centre, John Sandford Sports Centre and De Montfort Student’s Union.

MA by Independent Study
Independent Study MA

This mode of study offers you the chance to design and pursue a tailor-made Master’s programme which speaks to your own research interests. It differs from the taught courses above as there are no compulsory taught components giving you the flexibility to fit study around work and / or other commitments.

The MA by Independent Study is available in all Humanities disciplines from the traditional fields of English, History and International Relations through to the creative areas such as Dance and Drama and those that are innovative or cutting edge like Music, Technology and Innovation.
