Professor of Textual Studies

Anthony Edwards

Previously Professor of English at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He has also been Visiting Professor at the University of Washington and the University of Colorado, Benjamin Meaker Visiting Professor at Bristol University and Helen Cam Fellow at Girton College, Cambridge. He has also taught at Queen Mary, University of London and the University of Cambridge (where he has supervised M.Phil and Ph.D theses). He has held fellowships from the Canada Council Fellow and the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada, and has been Guggenheim Fellow, and a Leverhulme Research Fellow

Professor Edwards is General Editor, Index of Middle English Prose, Co-Editor, English Manuscript Studies, a member of the Advisory Board, Society for Early English & Norse Electronic Texts (SEENET), of Early Modern Literary Studies, of the Advisory Board, Middle English Texts and the  Council of Scottish Text Society. He has also been a Trustee of the New Chaucer Society, an editor of the Yale Edition of the Works of St. Thomas More and a member of the Editorial Boards of Text, Analytical & Enumerative Bibliography and Review and General Editor, Garland Medieval Texts. He has also been Vice-President of the Renaissance English Text Society.

His main research interests are in medieval and early modern literature, textual criticism, bibliography and the history of the book.

He most recently coauthored (with Professor Julia Boffey), A New Index of Middle English Verse (2005).

He would be happy to supervise research in medieval and early modern literature and Renaissance literature.
